About Greater Freeport Community Chorus

Our Vision

The Greater Freeport Community Chorus aspires to become a premier community choral group through the quality of its performances and the contribution to community by its outreach endeavors.

We have members from all over the greater Freeport area, including Bath, Bowdoin, Brunswick, Cumberland, Durham, Freeport, South Freeport, Portland,
Pownal, South Portland, and Yarmouth. No audition required.

Our History

The Greater Freeport Community Chorus was founded by Sukie Rice of Freeport in 1996 and was directed by her for five years. She continued to sing with the chorus until her death in 2020. An annual scholarship has been established in her honor to aid a Freeport High School student planning to study music at the college level.

During the summer of 2005, we performed with Tim Janis at Merrill Auditorium where we recorded a PBS holiday special. We had Tim Janis as our guest at the Winter 2005 concert, where he presented us with CDs of the July concert at Merrill Auditorium.

We have caroled at area nursing homes and at L.L. Bean's Flagship Store in Freeport. Late in the summer of 2018, we sang the National Anthem at a Portland Sea Dogs baseball game, after being rained out on our first attempt a few weeks before. We sang it anyway that day in the alley approach to the field!
